How it started

Road trips to see family in Pennsylvania started before I could walk. In my twenties, I chased rodeos, and in December 2016, a trip to Hawaii for the Pearl Harbor remembrance made it all 50 states. Then March 2020 shut the world down. Two months later, my home office walls had become a jail cell. A conversation with a friend sent me down the RV rabbit hole, and that summer I bought my first motorhome. Our first trip rolled out on August 15, 2020.

Three RVs, six years, 100,000 miles

  • Bessie, a 25-foot Forest River Sunseeker with no slides (slides scared me), taught me the basics.
  • Bertha, a 32-foot Sunseeker, took me to the Badlands and Yellowstone, and taught me what water inside the walls can cost.
  • Bertie Bea, my 2016 Tiffin Allegro Open Road 34PA with a Ford V10, has been home since March 2023. This time I had her inspected before I bought her.
  • Rosie, my 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, has been towed behind all three since 2020.

These days I winter at Kick Back Ranch & Event Center in Ramer, Alabama, and spend summers wherever the road takes me.

What I do now

  • The podcast. 70 episodes and counting since March 2025, with guests from the rodeo arena to the RV industry, talking about life on the road and the decisions that keep you rolling. Listen here.
  • Rally seminars. In March 2022 I sat in the audience at my first RV Basics course. Today I teach seminars at RV rallies, including Family RV Association events.
  • The Rolling Smooth books. I wrote and narrate the Rolling Smooth series, real lessons from the road. Get the books.
  • Systems thinking. My IT career taught me to look at the whole system. I bring that to RV electrical, weight and plumbing.
